We hadn't planned on visiting Prague at this point in our trip, but we took a detour from Slovakia because our friend Ben, he started this trip with us, was in Europe and was able to meet us in Prague if we headed there sooner than later. We will be visiting Slovakia again later, so I will write about that then. It wasn't far from Slovakia to Prague, but we left Slovakia late which meant we would need to stop one night on our way to Prague. The countryside was a lot like Hungary, but more hilly, it was all very green with forest braking up the farming land, the roadsides and towns were clean, it was lovely to ride through. We stopped and spent the night in a nice town with lovely old buildings and a cobble stoned town square, the town was Brno. Between Brno and Prague we called in on a castle we had read about, Česky Stenberg Castle, it is a privately owned castle that is still lived in. It was a lovely castle in very good condition and with lovely green gardens around it, this time we waited and paid to have an English speaking guide take us around, it was worth it. In Prague we had found what looked to be a lovely camp ground to meet Ben in and it turned out to be as good as it was portrayed, for a change! Ben arrived late in the afternoon and it was really good to catch up with him, we exchanged travel stories over dinner and had a late night. Ben joined us in Prague the next day and it was like old times as we strolled around the city and took in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city, there was some wonderful architecture to look at, the highlight being the stone bridge that it is renowned for. Our meandering took us to a part of the city that most tourists wouldn't see I would think, the buildings started to become in need of repair and the park we entered had lots of people sitting around, while others looked like they were passed out on the ground, there was rubbish everywhere and one person looked as if they may have been getting treatment after injecting themselves went wrong. I guess we have been lucky in the past and not seen the seedy side of the cities we have visited. We caught the public transport back to the camp ground and had no problems at all, it was easy. The next morning Ben had to go his own way and we headed towards Poland, but only did 80Ks, we wanted to stop in Kuntá Hora where they have a church that is decorated with the bones of 40,000 people, quite morbid, but very interesting and fascinating. The human bones have been used to create sculptures, a chandler and a coat of arms to name a few things. We also had a look at some other wonderful architecture in other churches and a collage, parts of the town were wonderful, while other parts were not so good. It only took us another day to ride through the countryside and into Poland. The Czech Republic had been a very nice country to visit and see.

Mum/Marion Wkhat fun to catch up with Ben again, no wonder it was a late night. Yes, interesting that so far you havent seen the 'seedy side' of some cities. - Unfortunately they are there. I'm not sure about the Church with sculptures from bones ? Will look at your photos, maybe a picture too ?
Janet McIntyre Well, that would have been lovely to hang out with Ben again. I did wonder where he'd got to as well... Great you have the flexibility to alter plans. And the worldwide communication! Speaking of which - our Lisa arrived in Sydney on Monday night. She'll be there a couple of weeks before travelling here in time for her birthday. She'll be in Aus about 6 weeks.
Janet McIntyre I can't believe I went to see your photos before they're up! I also think you'll have pics of the bone church. I've seen it on tv (hah hah, arm-chair travel), possibly with Billy Connolly. Very disturbing it was, even more so combined with the cleverness of using dead ones!
