Mich Goes Walk About
Floating Market was great. Was lovely to see a bit of traditional Thai life, being stuch in Bangkok for a few days started getting me wondering why I was here, but seeing the floating market reminded me and bought back that fascination with other cultures and aspriation to see as much as I can. That day we also saw a Cobra fight, was abit scary. We both touched the Cobra, which is suppose to be lucky, especially if you're single. So how knows I might get married in Las Vegas after all! (Don't hold your breath though, touching Julliets boob ib Verona is suppose to bring you your Romeo within a year, Hafsha and I are still waiting!!!)
Am back in Bangkok after a ever enlightening trip to Pattaya, two hours outside of Bangkok. We were led to beleive that it was a leafy little beach resort, quite and tranqil. Its was as lively as they come. Not normal Luton Town on a Saturday night lively, oh no, Thai girls in clubs and street prositutes everywhere, ladyboys galore!!!! Was fun though!
A couple of days we went to an island called Koh Lharn, so small not even on a map i think. Just relaxed by the sea (Nat got burnt, then more burnt, and then more burnt!), eating fried rice! I've only been in Thailand for a week, but I assure you am not eating rice for a good year when I get back!!
After a week of relative luxury, we are now staying in a complete hole! Have to walk down a dingy corridor to get to our room, which is small, two beds, no air con, just a small fan, with writing on the wall from previous travllers, leaving behind there words of wisdom. Most of which are telling us to get out..nice!!
You'll be gald to hear that we checked out of the hole very early the next morning. We spent Thursday 10th Feb wonderign aroung the Grand Palace. An extraordinary palcae by all accounts. Every new king builds an extra temple of some kind, that they certainly don't so things by halves. Makes Buckngham Palace look like a council flat in March Farm. As we were leaving the Palace, we noticed that the street was very quiet, we looked around to see loads of POlice lining the street and stopping the traffic, we were the only people on the street, we were instructued to keep walking, so we did. A few moments later we were instrcuted to stand still while an entourge of cars drove passed and all police officers stod to salute. We later found out that the kings daughter had been in one of the cars. As we neared the end of the street in dawned on us what an experience that was as as far as the eye could seee, people stood still desperate to catch a glimpse of the princess.
Friday 11th Feb, we left Bangkok and headed north to Authaya, the Ancient City. The train ride up was an experince, especially when you get off as there are not platforms, you just have to walk accross the tracks. All along the way people just walk along and accross the trian tracks, as the train passes through. (Needless to say they don't go very fast here!) Authaya was alot more my thing, the history was fascinating and the place we stayed had a really good atmosphere. We stayed up ti the common rom watching 50 first dates (Adam Sandler pwwhooor!) with the other guests.
Sunday 13th Feb - Khao Yai National Park. We spent al of Saturday travveling further north to the National Park. This involved, train, local bus and hitch hiking! Once we arrived there were no beds in the dorm, we got a tent. Possibly the worst nights sleep I've ever had, and that's saying something! It was worth it though, we spent Sunday treking through the forest, Nat enjoyed the nature side, i was grateful for the physical challenge that 5 hrs treking brings. We also got to see the Waterfall from The Beach, a little disaapointing, especailly as I wanted to jump off it.
