Mich Goes Walk About
After Cambodia we made our way to Northern Thailand. We are now in Chiang Mai, having two days of doing absolutely nothing (so we can recover from spedning 20 hours over last two days on buses), before we go trekking to the Hill Tribes for 3 days. Which will include Bamboo Rafting and an elephant ride!!!!
Got back from Trekking yesterday.. Was amazing. There were lots of hills, as you would expect as we were going to see the traditional Hill Tribes, and the down hills were pretty scary. At one point we walked through some bush fire. The hill tribes are pretty remote, and the ones we visited haven't really been hit by tourism, which is why we choose that trek in particular. Things were basic, we washed in the rivers and ate food cooked by our guide on an open fire. The nights were freezing, i slept in full clothes with about 5 blankets, but still shivered in the early hours. The second day of trekking was a lot more strenous than the first, but afterwards we sat in a river watching waiting for the elephants to arrive. Riding the elephant was pretty scary at first, and i still think they should have a seat belt of some sort, but once we got into the swing of it, it was a welcomed break from walking (lots of blisters!). We spent the second night in a Bamboo camp and sat by a fire eating dinner and chatting. The final day there was no walking (do not think anyone could of managed another trek), instead we had 1 and half hours of bamboo rafting, which involved 5 of us on a raft trying to balance. The water wasn't deep or fast flowing, but if you fell in it would of hurt as there were lots of rocks at the bottom.
