Mich Goes Walk About
Well an add on to my planned trip, but am really glad i've made it here. I am staying in a church (i know who'd of thought it) and have really taken to this place. I spent Thursday making my way around the extensive and fascinating muesums here. Firday i took a trip to the Rehabilitation Centre that has semi-wild Organ-utans. I got there about an hour before feeding time, i wondered around and grabbed a drink and sat on a bench engorssed in my book. Out of the corner of my eye i see someone trying to get my attention. I look up to see one for the staff pointing up into the tress above my head. I look up, and can hardly believe my eyes as there is an Organ-utan swinging through the trees. I fumble through my bag trying to fish out my camera, as it moves nearer and nearer to me. It eventually settles on the bench in front of me and i can see its holding a baby organ-utan. It stays about 2 metres away from me for a good 20 minutes and soon there are more in the trees above me head! What an experience. I stay to watch feeding time, and afterwards as i wait for a bus to take me back to Kuching centre i am offered a life my Maw, Melin and Maggie. Who end up being wild party animals. They invite me out for a night out in Kuching, i accept. Friday night's here are prettty much like back home. I got completey wasted and had to be put to bed (first time ever) and spent most of Saturday nursing the worlds worst hangover! I did manage to scrap myself to watch a bit of Malaysian Idol at the waterfront. And in the evening Maw and Melin come to take me out for dinner with Maws family, which was really nice. Sunday i left to go on a tour of a Longhouse, which is a very longhouse which a whole tribal community share. There were 25 families living in the one i visited. It was really interesting. In the evening the Chief and a few others performed their native dance and then allowed us to join in. I was the last one up drinking rice whisky with the Chief.
I left Kuching on Tuesday and headed towards Bako National park, via local bus then a boat. By now i've done quite a lot of trekking and been to quite a few national parks. But i was truely breath taken when the boat dropped me off at a desserted beach! I spent two days there entertaining myself with the strenous treks, which led to some amazing views. On my second day i team up with Kerim an Eyptian guy, we trek to the waterfall. Wasn't expecting much as have been to some Waterfalls in Thailand and as it was not the wet season i had always been disappointed by the trickle og water. However, this time i was not disappointed. We managed to swim right up to the cascading water, and so this was my first under a waterfall experience. It really was amazing, a waterfall surrounded my dense forestry. After swimming for a bit we decide to do another trek to a beach. We walked for another 2 hours until we get to the beach. Any what a beach it was. Totally desserted and tranqil. We swim in the warm water for a bit, and then when thunder starts we make our way to the headquarters pretty fast. It rains alot here and when it does you really don't want to be caught in it. Have had that experience before!!! I left Sarawak on Thursday, but not before an epic journey to the airport. Waited for a bus to the airport for ages, in the end i had to phone Mau for a lift. He was more than happy to obliged, with only 45 minuted before my flight, i was convinced i was going to miss it. And then when Mau's car kept breaking down i started to panic!! We managed to get to the airport with 20 minutes before my flight, dump the car outside the entrance, running through the building with my back pack, but the check ins closed! But i hadn't missed the flight, it had been canelled!!! Had to wait 3 hours for another one! But we filled the time by going to the best noodle place in town! Am so good with the old chopsticks now!! Once i eventually managed to get to KL that evening, Mau's friend Loyld picked me up and gave me somewhere to stay for the evening. It was really nice to stay in a home for a change, to have carpet underneath my feet, clean towels and a home cooked meal! Was great! That evening we went out to Karoke (which is really big over here!). It was an experience i can tell you. Its not like at home where you sing to a crowd, here you can hire a small room just for your friends, where you can sing to your hearts content (whilst drinking and eating) until the early hours! I obviously impressed everyone with my talent!
