This morning we continue to cruise along the Main River (pronounced Mine). It is picturesque rural country side dotted with small villages. We took the opportunity to have a bit of a sleep in. Glenn was up and in the gym on the treadmill at around 7.30 though.
Because we are cruising today we have a couple of activities on board. At about 10.45am there is a Bavarian Fruhschoppen which included beer, white sausage, bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzel, sausage etc etc.
At 11.30 we have talk by Dr Markus Urban about the European Union.
This afternoon we arrive in Bamberg a UNESCO world heritage town built on seven hills. We take a guided walking tour of the old town. Bamberg was unscathed during the 30 year war as the people paid the Romans not to attack them and during the world wars
There was minimal damage so the old town is well preserved. The walking tour is interesting but not as entertaining as others we have done. At the end of the tour we have free time and the boys head off to have their free 'smoked beer'. Bamberg specializes in brewing a number of beers the most famous being a smoky beer. Not popular with the Aussies!
Back on board the ship at 6pm we set sail for the Main/Danube Canal. After dinner tonight we are entertained by Valerie May, she is a vocalist that sings songs from the various European Countries. She has a very powerful voice but we don't understand a word she is singing and don't know many of the songs! The entertainers that come on board usually get on at one of the locks and then get off at another lock further up the river. The cocktail of the day today is Mamassita ( mmmmmmm very nice)
