Reykjavik to Bergen
Early start. Alarm went off at 4.30am. Shower, finish packing and in the car before 5.15. The hotel gave us a breakfast to go package as breakfast is included in our stay.
The drive to the airport takes about an hour and our GPS gives us a bit of a bum steer, or maybe that was the person that input the destination. Who knew that Keflavik was a suburb and not just the airport! Anyway, we made it and the car was received back with no issues so a short walk to the terminal to drop our bags and we are confronted with a very very long line.
We have time and the staff assure everyone that the flights will wait. There are people leaving a lot earlier than us!
We are flying Icelandair to Bergen, leaving at 8am arriving at 12.15 but we lose 2 hours in time change.
Arrived in Bergen after a very quick flight (I fell asleep). We decided to eat lunch while we waited for the shuttle to take us to the ship. Norway is another very expensive country so basic food costs 2-3 times as much as in Australia.
The shuttle takes us right to the terminal and once we are checked in and have left our bags to be taken on board, then we go through the safety briefing and are able to board the ship ourselves. We can't get into our cabins until 6pm so we go for a walk into the city and revisit some of the places we remembered from our previous baltic & fjordlands cruise. Bergen is a pretty city with some very old historic buildings but on the other hand a lot of new construction taking place. We don't set sail until 8pm but we head back to the ship to get in and unpack. It's nice to know we don't have to be on the move everyday for the next 11 days.
