It's Sunday and not too much happening today as far as going ashore but the cruising should be nice.
The weather maybe finally turning as it is overcast and quite dull. It's still not really cold but the wind on the deck when the ship is moving is icy.
We cross back over the Arctic Circle this morning at approx 9.17am. Instead of an ice ceremony, this morning you get a spoon of Cod Liver Oil to celebrate and you get to keep the spoon! We don't need any spoons!
We continue to cruise through the islands, we have a lecture from Vera about Fairytales and myths of Norway and before lunch we dock at Sandnessjøen and although there is very little there and it's Sunday, we get off and go for a quick walk to stretch our legs, back on the ship 20 minutes later and it's lunch time. The expedition team deliver a talk about climate change and the impact on the Norwegian coast and its animals but I opt out of that for fear of falling a sleep so Glenn goes and gets the good oil.
The only other stop we have today during daylight hours is at Brønnøysund which is a small coastal town catering for trade and fishing. Stone Age settlements have been uncovered in the limestone caves in the surrounding mountains. It's a good walk to the lake, through the town, to the church and back along the harbor. Back on board and it's coffee time.
A point of interest that we will pass is known as Torghatten. It's a 160m long, 25-30m high and 12-15m wide hole in the mountain 112m above sea level. Scientists believe it was created after the last Ice Age when the land was 100m lower than it is today and the action of the sea wore a hole in the mountain. The legend says it was Hestmannen's arrow which passed through the Brønnøy king's hat when Lekamøya fled south.
It's the farewell Captains dinner tonight as quite a number of the round trip cruise passengers get off tomorrow morning in Trondheim to continue their journey by train or fly home. Our dinner time is at 8.30pm so we are meeting for pre dinner drinks in Laurie and Carolyn's suite.
