Today was another day filled mostly with driving. We left Rocky Harbour and headed to Terra Nova National Park, where we are spending the night. For the most part, the drive was pretty uneventful, except for one small part.
We were driving along and hadn't made it that far from Rocky Harbour. There was a little red car ahead of us and it must have caught the gravel on the edge of the road and the driver must have panicked because the next thing we know the car is swerving across into the next lane, and then back across our lane, does almost a 180 degree turn, and ends up facing angled back hanging into the ditch. As the car came to a halt, a semi passed them in the other lane. Had the semi been a few seconds earlier, those people could have been dead because the car would have been sideswiped by the semi. And if they had gone any further into the ditch, they could have smacked into the rock face on the other side of the ditch. Scary. Luckily, that wasn't the outcome. Since we were right behind the people, we were the only people to see what happened and we stopped to make sure no one was hurt. Thankfully, they weren't. Shaken up, but not hurt. It was a young driver with who I'm assuming was her mom in the passenger seat, and the poor girl couldn't stop crying. Can't say I blame her though. Other people stopped to make sure no one was hurt and to check whether they needed help, and since there were others there to help and we were taking up a good chunk of the road with the camper behind the truck (there wasn't really a shoulder to pull over onto so we were stopped mostly on the road) we decided to carry on.
We arrived at Terra Nova National Park later in the afternoon, and once we had set up the camper we decided to go for a drive to check out the area. There are a couple little towns on a small peninsula near the park, so we headed that way. The drive was beautiful and the town at the end - Salvage - was neat to see. The houses were clustered around the bays in the town, and some were sort of just perched over the water. After driving to the end of the peninsula, we headed back to the park, made a stop at a viewing point, and headed back to the camper for some supper and relaxing.
