We woke up to another overcast morning today. I hadn't gone for a jog in a few days (trying to balance out the amount of ice cream and bakery stops we make with doing a bit of jogging!), and so I went for one first thing this morning. Today we headed out to the Fortress of Louisbourg on the east coast of Cape Breton, which is a national historic site. In 1961, the Government of Canada began a $25M project focused on reconstructing what was the French fortress that existed back in the 1700's. The reconstruction focuses on how the fortress would have appeared in 1744 - 1745. Cabot Trail today! There is a hurricane down in the States right now that is moving north toward Atlantic Canada - hurricane "Austin" - and they are expecting it to hit here on Saturday with strong winds and rain. We decided that it was best to get anything we really want to do, such as the Cabot Trail, out of the way before Saturday hits so that we hopefully have some good weather for it.
