And so we caught the overnight train to Xi'an. Surprisingly comfortable (more so than the wooden slab of a bed in the hostel at the great wall) and a good way to save money on a night in a hostel. The only downside was 'Snoring norman' as we named him below me (Gem)!
We arrived in Xi'an at 6.40am and made our way to the hostel....which turned out to be a really nice hotel! We then spent the day exploring the local area. We visited the Great Mosque in the muslim quater. It was really peacefull considdering the bustling market outside the walls. I then had a go at bartering in the local market for a pashmina. I got it from approx 10 pound to 3 - score! We also went to the local bell and drum towers where we watched a crazy music show involving...well...bells and drums.
Xi'an is also quite a big city, but not half as big as Beijing. It was the capital city for a long time before beijing, and i think its a lot nicer.
The next day (18/03/08) we set off to see the Terricota Army. It was amazing! the skill and detail was amazing considering it was made 512 BC (i think). It was created by emperor Qin as a way to keep his rule when he died. Unfortuantely it was attacked and burnt. But many onf the remains are still being discovered.
Unfortunatley we are still unable to upload any more photos. But we will try again soon
