We arrived in Nanning 06/04. The Hotel we are staying in is quite nice and its only 5 pounds a night. Nanning is a lot nicer than Guangzhou. Its not as busy, cleaner and lots of little nice shops and food places making it more quaint than a major City.
So far we have had a really nice time here. The first day spent wandering the streets, buying met flip flops and walking to a Nanhu park with a huge lake. The weather here is really hot, and very humid but makes a nice change from the rain in Hong kong and Guangzhou.
Today we ventured out of Nanning to visit Yilling Caves. After getting the right bus the wrong way and having to get it back to the start and get it the right way, we got there. It was really cool! When we first arrived we were offered a taste of some of the local minority food and ginger tea. A chinese family asked us to sit with them..we were the only westerners there so got a lot of attention. One guy stayed with us the whole way round the caves and translated what the guide was saying!
The Caves were similar to Wookey Hole but more vast, nonetheless worth the visit.
The best part of the whole day was walking towards the caves entrance and realising monkeys were freely living amoung the trees. They were swinging about and playing on the road...it was awesome to be so close to them and not see them being caged. We bought some bananas from some women to feed them, they came right up to us to take the Bananas off us. It was soooo cute! Ive now decided i want (Gem) a pet monkey!
Unfortunately we have not been able to upload photos, but we have some good ones of the monkeys so hopefully we will beable to soon. On of the monkeys jumped on to this tourists legs, climbed up him, took his bottle of orange drink and ran off...he jumped on to the roof of the shop, bit the bottom of the bottle and drank it....it was hilarious!
08/04 we are catching an early train to Pingxiang (which is a taxi ride from the vietnam border) staying there one night then leaving for Vietnam Wed morning.
Hopefully we can upload some more photos soon. x
