We arrived in Kampot yesterday and found a sleepy town that clearly doesn't get many tourists. The hostel we are staying in is mentioned in the lonley plannet as the liveliest place in town and that is saying something - it has about 10 people max in the bar in the evening. We booked a tour to see the Bokor National Park for today - the tour including a visit to the abandoned hill station.

The tour began thismorning at 8 and we were soon 'off'-roading' up a dirt track in our minibus up the side of the national park mountain. We visited a number of abandoned buildings such as an old palace, casino, catholic church and a building the king used for keeping his concubines. On the trip up we were suprised at the amount of building ork on the road - seemed like they were building a motorway up the side. We were told by our guide that a company were building a 5 star resort at the top of the mountian and putting a highway all the way up to it. Suprrising really seeing as it is meant to be a 'protected' national park but it seems that in a country where corruption rules - if you have enough money the goverment will let you build anywhere!

It started raining heavily and we were meant to be walking to see a waterfall in the jungle. Most of the tour (including Meg) didn't want to get drenched but Gem and I decided to go. After half an hours walking and being soaked to the bone we reached an amazing 2 tier waterfall - enchanced by the heavy rain and well worth getting wet.

After it fined up we all did a but more hiking through the jungle - where meg continually slipped over on the wet mud. She blamed her shoes - we blamed her balance. We then had a really slow hour and a half boat ride back to our hotel.

Tomorow we are planning to go to Kep (40 mins away) and hopefully get a boat to Rabbit Island.
