The last day of the trip today.
Had a look at the "Two-Up" ring which is a game that was invented by the ANZACs in the trenches where they gamble about whether 2 coins will land 2 heads or 2 tails up. Nice little bit of history but the place had been trashed, there was bottles smashed everywhere which was a shame.
Then we got to see the SuperPit which is a huge gold mining pit set up by Alan Bond, a dodgy old businessman who got put in jail for fraud but not before owning the winning Americas Cup yacht and doing a whole heap of apparently good stuff for Australia as well as the dodgy stuff. The pit was amazing, is about 3.8km long, 500m deep and just under 2km wide and is one of the richest 'miles' in the world. The tailings from the mines (ie the leftover rocks) are used to make the roads around Kalgoorlie and apparently they have been ripped up at least 3 times in about the last 20 or so years as they gold extraction processes get better and they can get the gold out of the leftovers.
Kalgoorlie also has a lot of very neat old buildings that are still intact which is nice to see.
Then it was on our way back to Perth, back to the real world. Saw part of the Rabbit Proof Fence that the dumbasses thought would keep the rabbits out of WA, guess they forgot that rabbits can burrow! It was one of the longest fences in the world but now a lot of it has been pulled down.
