Today we drove down to Wellington, or "Windy Welly" as they call it. When we first arrived, we drove to the top of an over look of the city. New Zealand's capital city, Wellington looks and feels much like San Fransisco with it's hillside houses, museums, and great cafes. The only difference is you can walk from one end of the city to the other in about 10 minutes. After checking into the Wellington YHA hostel, we were out on the town in search of food. Great burgers are hard to find, but Cuba St. proved us wrong. Next stop was the Te Papa museum, a brand new multi-million dollar building dedicated to the history of New Zealand culture, and our first free attraction. Our favorite part of the museum was the murder mystery. We read plaques about NZ animals to find clues. We barely got it at the last minute and felt fairly disturbed surrounded by 7-year-olds solving it left and right.
Later on, we checked out the Embassy Theatre; New Zealand's oldest theater, which held the debut of the Lord of the Rings films. We ended up seeing a film, but at a mainstream theater. The theaters here have assigned seats and only let people in just seconds before the previews start. Many people bring in food and drink as well, and it didn't seem to be a problem. The film we saw was Super Bad, though it was anything but. A great day.
