Before we go any further, a word about ice cream in New Zealand. If you like ice cream, this place is for you. In addition to all of the flavors you know and love, there are so so so many more brillant flavors to choose from. A few of my personal favorites are Hokey Pokey, Goody Goody Gumdrops and Lolly Scramble. All of the ice cream is made from local dairy farmers. The Gelato shops have also been quite nice with Dark Choco Orange being the best.
With that being said, we departed Dunedin this morning for Lake Tekapo. On our way our of town we stopped at the bottom of Baldwin Street (guiness book of world records steepest street in the world). I am not convinced as it is the culture of New Zealand to put "Biggest, Tallest, Greatest" before every lake, bridge, building, town, etc in this country. Anyway, we walked up Baldwin Street, took a few pics and then realized on the way down that it may actually be the steepest street. Stopped for breakfast along the ocean and hiked down to the beach to see spherical boulders along the sand. Pretty cool. Made a quick grocery stop in Omaru (home of the blue eyed penguins) before arriving at Lake Tekapo. Lakefront lodge, nice enough but not much to do so we skipped some stones in the lake and then made dinner and watched the Whole Nine Yards and Paycheck with a few friends.
