Slept in, made brekky in our kitchen and then went to the glacier check in center to get geared up with boots, crampons, 3 pairs of socks, and rain jackets. Took a bus to the trailhead and then hiked 3km to the glacier. Imagine walking up several staircases of blocks of ice and that is what it was like hiking up the side of the glacier. The guides carve out steps and reshape them every day. It was raining, cold and we were soaking wet. Nope, still can't laugh about it. At least we did the half day hike instead of the full day. The views were great. The higher you get the more blue the ice becomes because of its density. At any given point you can look around and see at least 7 waterfalls on the nearby mountains from glacier run off. It's one of only 3 places in the world where rainforests surround the base of the glacier. Two are in NZ and the other is at the border of Argentina and Chile. After our hike we jumped in the hot tub with Melina and thawed our bodies before our free yummy pumpkin veggie soup at 6pm. In the evening we hung out with our Brit suitemates, Duncan and Kate and watched 50 First Dates.
