Packed up, filled up the car and got some groceries before hitting the road. Drove about 1/2 hour north of Coober Pedy to The Breakaways then decided to drive to Arkaringa Station to see the Painted Desert. This meant going via the dirt road! After 1000km's of dirt and corrugations Matt was looking forward to driving on bitumen today. Oh well, he'll have to wait another day or two!
We drove via the Moon Plain which is just stones and dirt and no vegetation what so ever. The Moon Plain has featured in a number of movies such as Pitch Black and Mad Max Beyon the Thunderdome.
After a few hours on the road we arrived at Arkarings station. We set up camp and then drove out to the painted desert for sunset. The views were nice but unfortunately the road (or the sun) was on the wrong side for sunset viewing so most of the hills were in shadow.
On the way back to camp we collected some firewood so we could light the communal fire back at camp. We had dinner then we sat around the camp fire chatting to the other campers. It was a really nice evening.
