The 11:29 tram takes us into the city and we cross over Charles Bridge. It is very busy with lots of tour groups and Saturday visitors. On the other side we catch No22 tram up to the Castle. Inside the courtyard is very bright and clean, and small groups of guards march through from time to time.
Part of the facade is covered in scaffold and netting, but the grotesque stabbing and clubbing statues are clear to see.
We find a small terrace outside a restaurant overlooking the whole city and have lunch of potato cakes wth smoked sausage. After lunch we wander down the steep roads, past shops selling pastry coils, called Trdelnik, out of their open windows.
Back over Charles Bridge we go over to the Jewish quarter and show Nick and Grete much of the route Petruska took us around yesterday; Old Town Square, Helveska, Wenceslas Square etc.
At 18:00 we arrive beside the Marina Grosetto restaurant and meet Petruska. A couple of waiters come out and rearrange the gangway with ramps for us to get down, and we are shown to our table. The side of the restaurant is all glass, but Nick asks where the draft is coming from, not realising the window has been opened wide so we get a better feeling of the river. Once we are seated we all exchange gifts; Petruska gave us some of the local decorated china we admired in a shop yesterday, and a good luck horseshoe decorated with Amber for N+G as it is their anniversary.
The staff are superb and after we have ordered starters a waiter asks iff we would like a central plattter of our order to try a bit of each. All of the food is excellent and enjoyed by everyone. We leave the restaurant at 20:15 and walk back to Staromestska for the last time, say our goodbyes and head off on the tram. Like last night, this one doesn't go all the way and we have to get off. We wait and wait, but the next low-floor one isn't going to Troitska either. A local helps us with the timetable and finds it will be 21:49.
We are all so tired, and beginning to get cold, that when we spot a taxi across the road we decide to take it and blow the cost [which is actuall a reasonable 165 Kr or about £6.00]
What a fabulous two days we've had in this lovely city.
