It's a bright and sunny morning, but being Good Friday there are no buses so we plan to have a lazy day in and around the site. The river running past our pitch is crystal clear and a pheasant is going around the site looking for breakfast scraps.
Ali unloads the wheelchair, which has stayed safely on the carrier on its maiden voyage, and we wander up through the woods to the weir which supplies the stream to the mill where the campsite owners live. White water cascades over the red and grey rocks which are glistening in the sunshine. We sit in the dappled shade watching the water and listening to the birds until two golden retrievers turn up to steal the show. They both love the water and plunge in time after time chasing stones thrown by their owners.
We amble back through the site and out into Week (pronounced Wick) Lane. It's a steep hill up a pretty lane with hedgerows full of wild flowers, new leaf in the trees and a few catkins.
At lunchtime we meet Dick&Jan and go across to the Badger's Holt for lunch (beer and sandwiches) which we enjoy sitting outside chatting to the retriever owners.
Returning to site we sit in the sunshine beside the river reading (and perhaps a little snooze). We do another trundle up to the weir and when we get back a cool breeze has got up and the sun has dropped below the trees so we go inside, giving up on our earlier plan for a BBQ.
We have an early start tomorrow so a light supper then an early night.
