We arrived at the campsite in Goreme in a thunderstorm and tried to put up the tent(every else held fire) so got soaking wet. Decided to go into the nearest town to do a food shop The truck to broke down in the supermarket car park! We had to decamp everything from the truck and put it into the campsite owners minibus plus all of us!!! Adam and Helen stayed with the truck whilst the mechamics were sent for. Later that evening and one very large repair bill later and truck was back at campsite with all of us.
Did a truck clean the following morning, a very thorough one( which was needed), then headed into town for lunch. We hired a scooter for 3 hours and headed into the amazing rock formations in the adjoining valleys via the off road tracks. They are amazing up close.
This morning(9th May) we were up at 4.30am to take an early morning balloon ride over these valleys. That was an amazing spectacle as 75 balloons all took of at the same time, how they miss each other I do not know. The ride was amazing as the pilot took the balloon down into the valleys then it would rise up to give a panoramic view of the area. He even managed to land the balloon back onto the trailer!! We celebrated the ride with champagne and cake.
We are going to have a Turkish night tonight then off for three nights bush camping in Eastern Turkey before we stay near the border with Iran for a couple of days before going into Iran, so we expect wifi to be a bit erratic from now on, but will update the blog whenever we can.
