Given the ferry accident will delay my departure for Newfoundland and that I still need to repair the bike, I find a cheaper place to stay that also has a garage. Carmen knows of an elderly lady who lives on here own down by the lake and should be able to put me up for a few nights. I pack up and make the short ride to Mary Smiths house. She has a quaint little cottage and best of all an empty garage where I can work on the bike. Her garden also backs straight onto the lake and has spectacular views. That afternoon my bike parts arrive so I make the 2.5hr return trip to Sydney to collect them. Back at Mary's I set up the garage and begin to take apart the bike. 30mins into the job one of Mary's neighbors comes to see what I'm doing. I spend the next two hours being offered everything from tools to beer, money to a place to stay. I get back to working on the bike and get the clutch cover off. Removing the old water pump seals will require a homemade pulling tool and after visiting a few more neighbors with Dave, I'm introduced to John. John is a mastersmith and works at the Old Firehouse Ironshop. He rides bikes and has no problem opening up the forge and helping me out. We get the old seals out just as its getting dark. John invites me over to his place for a beer and dinner.
