Today started off with the sun shining and not as much wind which was good. We all packed our lunch and headed out for the morning.
We arrived at the National War Memorial with great anticipation. It was so majestic and beautiful. Tried to explain to Boo what the significance of the War Memorial was, and her understanding, although not detailed, was "were the soldiers where killed and remembered". Not too bad for a five year old. Martin and l thoroughly enjoyed it and could have stayed there for hours, we made it to the two hour mark which l thought was good for the girls. So much research into history has been done and all has been brilliantly presented for the public. A must see of Canberra in our eyes. Was so overtaken with emotion at the wall of honor. There were so many names, you just dont understand the effect of war until it is presented to you with the number of fatalities. Martin found a soldiers name of Beeson, H.L from the 10th brigade through 1914-1918 so we are going to research this to see if any relation. We knew we couldnt string the girls out any longer when Boo kept on asking if every entrance was the exit!!!! So we had another picnic in the car then headed off to parliament house.
The parliament house entrance was awesome to see, however, thats all. Martin and l were a bit deflated with what was to see and learn inside. Couldnt go into question time because you have to be silent, and well if didnt have the girls dont know whether l would have been able to do this also (hahaha). Boo freaked out a bit at the entrance as Martin failed the metal security detector because of his steel capped boots. Had to go to the side and Boo freaked out that daddy would loose his shoes!!! Took a bit of explaining but then she settled. Didnt help that Martin was in camo paints and looking like he wanted some trouble, maybe he just wanted to fit into the attire of the War Memorial.
After this we headed back to caravan to work out new plans as whilst ringing to confirm booking and Lake Lyall in Blue Mountains they informed us that it was closed due to wild weather and branches down, little access. Therefore have brought forward our booking at Sydney and are heading there tomorrow for 7 nights. Will be good to have a break from the cold, there overnight temps are the max day temps in Canberra. Might be in shorts and t-shirts (hahaha)!! So rest of the afternoon today is to get boring jobs of washing and restocking supplies done. Check in soon,
