Not a lot can be said about today, except that I pushed past where I had anticipated camping to ensure a hopefully relatively easy day tomorrow. For tomorrow brings the first of the properly overgrown and scrubby sections of track. These are set to continue until I reach Mt Speculation and my next food drop.
Today bought a real sense of wilderness for the first time on the trip. Apart from the 4x4 track I was walking on there is no human development as far as you can see in any direction. Gone are the cleared valleys, obvious choices for humans to establish themselves. Here it is too dry, too rocky and too remote for any such development. This is a section that is even devoid of huts. You get the sense that if it were not for the AAWT, there would be little reason to visit and that very few do. Yet, sadly, despite this remoteness you still come across rubbish at nearly every track junction. I could only laugh today when I saw an unequivocally Maccas straw!
The weather has seemingly echoed the areas I've traversed so often on my trip to date. The Barries looked yesterday to continue this trend...hot and dry. However this morning it tried it's hardest to give some rain. After 20 or so minutes it was all over and humidity was the order of the day. The long term forecast heralds some more substantial falls Saturday night and into Sunday. As I reflect I must say I have been incredibly lucky with the weather. Even as I lie in my tent listening to the strengthening sou-wester outside it is nothing compared to what I have received in the outdoors before. My fingers are crossed for this to continue!
Finally I must share my excitement about the 100th test currently underway at the SCG. I have been lucky enough to have good reception and have enjoyed a number of sessions from the match. It was great to hear (Victorian!) Pattinson further staking his claim to permanence, and Punter and Pup getting it done on an absolute road! With current form we could reclaim the ashes yet!!
