re: Cumberland Junction, Victoriaian nicholls Great Sal - a message to martie - my weekly trek in yarra valley - i leave lilydale by vehicle to base camp at cpcc car park the property first established for grazing in 1838- bought by the chirnside family in 1921 and the golf club in 1962, we set off in groups four down the first valley with a back pack [ i put mine on wheels } with 14 sticks and a sphere . we head east all with intentions straight down the valley to find a three inch hole in which to roll the sphere . alas we all find different ways to encounter the terrain - left - right-up- down but all meet up in the end . nextturn south up the valley , back north until we see the support vehicle in which a drink drop , just in time . again we head off chasing the sphere which has a mind of its own , loves trees, rough and water , four hours later we reach the summit and there we find the water hole where we can sit on a bench have a well earnt drink and talk about all the could have beens over the trip . next week we will do it again . congratulations martie and enjoy your last days with nature
