Well we set off today (sat) because it was raining and we did not want to waste our days in London if we could not see clearly in the London Eye.
Hopefully when we come back from Cornwall it will be better weather.
So we headed off to Southampton.
We were on the motorway M25 which was quite good although further down the road it was starting to get congested. Everyone was out for the weekend it seemed.
They have these service stops where there is a Day's hotel,Starbucks coffee, Petrol, eateries and mini supermarket. It was packed!!! They have the free wi-Fi as well.
It took about an hour and a half to get to Southampton.
Mind you we do waste a bit of time going around roundabouts a few times!
The guys watching the cameras must be scratching their heads as they see this little metal grey colour VW polo going round and round.
The TomTom does not tell us soon enough when to turn, and to change lanes at the last minute is suicidal.. So we go round again until we are sure.!!
The TomTom seems to be about 5 miles out as we are told we are at our destination when clearly we are not.
Sure makes for an interesting ride!
Booked in to the Holiday Inn here and then went down to the docks to see any big liners.
On a tourist brochure we got from the tourist info shop it said there was a double decker bus that does a 90 minute tour of Southampton including a visit to the docks to see up close the liners that use Southampton as their base; where the Titanic set sail from and the massive King George V drydock.
Yes....well we waited at the stop for over 45 minutes. We had parked the car and paid for 3 hours.
At 4 pm we had to give up as we would have been over our time. It never turned up as far as we know. Other people gave up waiting before us.
Most disappointed.
Anyway we went for a special TomTom drive!!! and managed to see a couple of liners but the rain set in then.
Again we saw row upon row of the semi detached houses and It
was very disappointing to see the amount of rubbish in the streets, even down in the civic centre. Bottles, papers, cigarette ends etc.
Talking about parking payment... It seems almost everywhere you have to pay for parking. In Clacton they even had a pay and park on the beach front, mind you no-one was using it when we went there.
We try and find the places that don't require you to pay.
Dad was happy tonight, we found a Pizza hut. It was verrrrry nice!
