Arrived in Roche St Austell at 11.30 Tuesday. Light rain accompanied us most of the way.
Ross and Patricia were happy to see us and made us very welcome.
It did not take long before we were reminiscing and going down Memory Lane. 1997 was when they had been over to Australia and for Gordon 53 years since he left England for Australia.
We had a great time talking and laughing and finally went to bed at 11pm. Mind you it did not get dark until just after 10pm.
Next day Ross and Patricia took us sightseeing to Newquay where Patricia had lived and Gordon had gone as a young child on holiday.
walked up the High street and enjoyed a real Cornish pasty for morning tea.
No shortage of pastry shops with their windows displaying every version of Cornish pasty you can think of. They all looked delicious. Ross was telling us that the thick plated edge was for the purpose of the miners to be able to hold the pasty to eat. Because their hands were black with dust and dirt the edge crust was then thrown away.
The pastry was very light and totally calorific!!
We then set off for Port Isaac.
All along the way the fields were green and sheep and cattle munched away happily.
We passed a block of wind turbines and they are huge up close.
Parked the car at the carpark on the hill and of course it was pay and display (your ticket).
Wonderful view from the top over the bay. And of course Doc Martin's cottage!
Down the narrow lane to the centre of the little village, squeezing to one side as a local car made it's way down past us and up the other side.
As we got to the bottom we could see a crowd gathered around the "Port Wenn " chemist.
They were filming an episode of Doc Martin, so we joined in. No! We did not see the Doc but he was in the town.
We watched them do a couple of takes and then went up the hill to the cottage.
Of course had a photo taken there. Ross was telling us they only use the facade of the house and Doc coming out or going in, the rest is done on a set that they have set up elsewhere.
We saw the place that is used as the school and actually had a Cream tea in there. The four of us enjoyed warm scones, thick strawberry jam and thick thick clotted cream!
Just as we were leaving it started to rain. Back to Ross and Tricia's for tea and more chatting before hitting the sack about 10.30pm. The twilight really fools you into thinking it is still the afternoon. Tomorrow we leave fora hotel in Harrow which we will use for a base while we have a look at London.
