Just come back to the George Albert Hotel, which by the way I would recommend heartily.
Breakfast this morning was very nice. You had cereals and fruit to choose from. Fruit juices, yoghurts which are very creamy, and then a cooked breakfast of Bacon, egg, mushroom tomato and baked beans. you can cook your own toast and plenty of REAL butter and little jars of jam.
Last night we had roasted tomato soup which was a robust flavor followed by the Carvery... Beef and pork with a crackling to die for. Yorkshire puddings, roast potatos , beans, carrots and red cabbage braised in red claret.
All very delicious, no room for dessert, we are being good!
Tonight we will try the Dorset Lamb.
We explored Thornford where Isaac Grey came from. Took photos of the church which was the family church and then on to Yeovil which was also a part of family history.
The countryside around here is breathtaking, so lush and green and the trees so elegant.
Often you will drive through a canopy of branches almost like a tunnel.
The lanes are winding and narrow and some of the houses have their front door so close to the road you could knock on it as you crawl past. 30 miles per hour through all the villages, up to 60 on straight stretches but only 70 on the motorways.
Dad is getting a bit more confident on the roads but the roundabouts are a test of our Grace!!
Tomorrow we head off to St Austell to Patricia and Ross Bradshaw's, a cousin on Gordon's Mothers side.
I reckon the scenery will only get better in Cornwall and maybe we will get our Devonshire tea. Tried for one today but when we went in to order the girl apologized because the delivery for the clotted cream was delayed. She could give us whipped cream but we said no it's ok. I have to be able to tell Auntie Chris that we had a genuine cream tea, as they call it, and the clotted cream is the genuine article!
Have not been able to post some postcards yet as the Post Offices are far and few between and if in a village you need to know where they are. I need a big town, so next big town I will post some off.
We are enjoying exploring the countryside, can't understand what our ancestors thought of Australia after leaving this beautiful country. Must have been a shock for them at first.
well we had the lamb and it was melt in the mouth...scrumptious. Then we had the bread and butter pudding with marmalade and cream. The chef here knows how to win over tourists, the meals here are just brilliant.
So to bed and up early ready to do the 1 to 2 hour trip to St Austell... Depends on how many roundabouts!!
