Ayres Rock up close and personal is amazing. We took the 10km walk around the rock as opposed to going against the aboriginals wishes and climbing it. Most people ignored that and just climbed it.
Everyone has seen the pictures but as most world sights go the reality is much much better. I have not seen such use of colours since Namibia - and that is saying something. From pictures you imagine a pretty uniform blob of a rock but here are the biggest surprises, it has a complex shape with gorges and bits 'missing' that makes for interesting photos (a big plus).
We stuck around for the sunset before heading back to the tent, the blog picture was taken by me on the crappy iPhone camera (just pointing out that the images you see are real and not clever photography).
The best buy in Oz is the 12 dollar fan heater, I am lovely and toasty in the tent.
Tomorrow the Olgas!
