On the way down from Cheetah park we had to bush camp in very arid mountains near to a place with cave paintings. This was the first place that we camped out completely in the wilds. Namibia is all about colours, it is as if god painted the place but used colours that go together.
We camped out as the last sun was painting the tops of the mountains red. We only set up the inner tent and camped well away from the others. As we lay in bed we could see the stars and the odd shooting star, very magical night. The next day we trecked up the valley to see the cave paintings. I was more interested in the stunning scenery.
We then set off for Spitskoff - the materhorn of Namibia. This place is simply jaw droppinging beautiful. Namibia is one of the most beutiful places I have been to. It is a mountain area left by an extinct volcano rim. Orange rocks jutting vertically out of the ground and worn into interesting shapes. I have been taking so many pictures that both camera batteries were dead - this pissed me off as the light was amazing. We set up the camp fire in a cleft in the rocks that made a circular wall of rock 12 ft diameter completely protecting us from the cold night air.
After seeing an amazing sunset, a plan was formed for us to go up one of the mountains to see the sun rise. At 5am I set off with a couple of others, it was that dark we actually started climbing the wrong mountain. These mountains look tough during the daylight never mind in pitch darkness. After lots of route corrections we made it between two plliars of rock that you needed equipment for. It was a wonderful view and well worth the life experience.
