Took a shuttle bus over to the small San Pedro on Lake Atilan. A scenic route that took us through volcanic mountains on roads half covered with landslides. The view of the lake and San Pedro as we negociated the final hairpins and potholes down was simply stunning.
After Antigua we were looking for somewhere without cockroaches, but with the same atmosphere. We took the first place that we looked at - clean and smelling of roses for the same price.
Although we only had a look around, San Pedro looks promising, prices are low and standards high. The place is a rabbit warren of footpaths with cool cafes and places to eat. It is pretty much a backpacker haven where locals are more imaginative on what backpackers like or crave.
A stones throw from where we are staying is a place where you can get a vegetarian roast on Sundays including roast and mashed potatoes with vegy gravy - we have only seen mashed potatoes once since we started our travels. We also noticed chips and cheese. We had that whilst watching Predators (something I wanted to see at the cinema in Australia).
I was strangely knackered after the film so went back rather than checking out a promising live drumming band at a nearby bar.
