Ooh err we are going back to Chile, things there are back to normal and we have some unfinished business to attend to. In fact we learnt that a deal was made the day after we walked to Argentina.
On the bus we played musical chairs but without the music. A couple were sitting in our reserved seats so we took some free ones instead and hoped for the best. However we were soon moved on by the rightful owners when they got on. Displaced we decided to move the people in our seats who inturn moved the people in their seats. I don't know if it went on for more cycles but it did please my simple mind seeing the bus version of the Mexican wave.
So we were on the bus heading south on the same route through the arid looking pampas.
Back at El Calafate we had 5 hours to kill before catching the bus on. We went to a bakery where we noticed some thick pizza/breads with cheese and tomatoes on top. Due to limited choice we have been eating far too many pizzas, but a low cost bakery selling what appeared to be vegy pizzas was far too good an opportunity to miss. We forgot that in El Calafate if it doesn't have a no meat warning (which incidently you never see) it will contain meat. The thickness of the bread was explained when we cut into it - there was a ham cheese mix in the center. Being vegy suddenly collided with my other religion - I hate waste. I decided that having cut into the breads we couldn't avoid paying for it and so the vegy effic was all ready lost. Whether it was eaten or thrown in a bin made zero difference to the animal inside or the meat industry. Both of us were ravenous, we both decided to eat around the edges leaving the majority on the plate.
After Liz did a bit of shopping whilst I did a bit of Internet surfing. As it was a really nice day we decided to kill the rest of the time down by the lake watching the flamingoes. They were in a frisky flying around mood - all good photo material. It was pretty good to watch them twist their long necks together up to their beaks which were then pressed together - ah!
The bus ride to Puerto Natales was interesting as it went along the same route we walked. The border crossing was now busy, in fact there was a scrum as everyones luggage on the bus had to be checked for animal products in a very small room without any form of organized queuing.
We needed to go back to Lili Patagonias hostel to collect our stuff that we left behind before fleeing to Argentina. No one including us knew whether we would ever return, there was some surprised faces seeing us again and a few stories to relate on how we got out.
It was late when we finally found a place to stay at Nancies hostel - bed was next on the list.
