Today we went on a day trip out of Shanghai with a tour guide Vivian and driver Mr Tang. We drove about 1hr 30 out of Shanghai to Suzhou which is well known for its Gardens. We visited the Humble Administrators Garden and also the Master of The Nets Garden. Both of which are traditional chinese Gardens which are set up so as not to give a view on first going into the garden but to reveal a view at each turn in the garden. The Gardens were both lovely and were mainly focused on water and rockery's with beautiful buildings. After this we went to the No 1 Silk Factory in Suzhou (Suzhou is again well known for its silk). We went around the factory which was really interesting and we got to stroke silk worms (Mark wants one for a pet; although they only live for 60 days). On our way back to Shanghai we stopped at Zhouzhang which is a water village, it is the "Venice of the East ". It is a lovely (if slightly touristy) town with canals running all through it, just like an old fashioned Chinese town as you would imagine it would be back in time.
