After another huge breakfast we decided to head over to the touristy area to visit the key things to see here, such as the Grand Palace etc! We jumped in a taxi but didn't get far before we hit traffic...its pretty impossible to not hit traffic here! The taxi driver didn't speak any English and kept muttering in Thai but we didn't think much to it. The traffic crawled along and eventually we realised why he wasn't happy, because we couldn't actually get to the Grand palace because of the red shirt protestors! They had closed most of the roads in the surrounding areas and there was no way through! The driver phoned someone who could speak English to us so explain that he couldn't get us there and we ended up going back to the hotel for advice. An hour long drive but we got to see more of Bangkok, including lots of police and army!
Once back at the hotel the concierge explained about where the red shirts were and where to avoid and of another possible option for getting there. We decided to leave the tourist area until Tuesday and went to the cinema instead! We watched Alice in Wonderland in the Imax cinema and it was pretty impressive! The cinemas here are a bit snazy and we had flexi seats which moved with you to make them more comfy!
In the evening we went up to the sky bar on the 83rd floor as we got a free drink for staying there. We expected it to be a bit snazzier but it was still lovely to chillax with a cocktail or 2! On the 84th floor there is a revolving sky walk and we managed to sneak up without paying! You have to jump on the moving floor and are taken around the building while overlooking the city! Impressive!
Last night so sad to be leaving the hotel but not Bangkok!
