We got up early and filled up on breakfast before sadly making our way to the train station to leave San Diego! Humf!! The train was on time and we got seats on the ocean side! We had some amazing views of the ocean and managed to a get a few pictures. There were so many people running or surfing! We got delayed about an hour into the journey as they were doing work on the lines and we had to wait for other trains to come through. We were also informed that there was no snack bar on board and that we would have to refuel nearer to Los Angeles as there wasn’t enough fuel! So as we neared Union station we diverted into the ‘yard’ to be serviced and refueled which delayed us by another 45mins! American people are very impatient and the people around us were not impressed by this delay, we on the other hand thought it was exciting as we saw all the other trains, where they are stored, serviced and even watched a train crew having a meeting on board their train! We would have had to wait at the station otherwise so it didn’t bother us! We finally got to union station and then had to wait for the coach to Las Vegas. This ended up being delayed by an hour which we were less than impressed with!
The journey wasn’t too bad and Mark sat chatting to an old lady for the first hour. She warned us about Las Vegas and how dangerous it is here and apparently the bad guys target tourists and travelers! Great!!! Anyhoo, the journey wasn’t too bad. Saw a lot of boring landscape, not much to it and managed a snooze! The driver managed to make up the delayed hour and we arrived on time. The drive into Las Vegas was amazing and very very impressive!! The buildings are incredible and excessively huge! Everything is lit up and you can tell that the hotels and casinos are competing with each other to stand out, but they all looked amazing to us!
To our surprise our hotel is opposite the station so we hardly had far to walk! The heat hit us as we left the station and at 8.45pm it was 30’c!! Luckily we have air conditioning in our room! The hotel is lovely, and considering we paid so little for it, it is rather nice! We are right in downtown and can’t wait till tomorrow to explore and tomorrow evening to see everything properly with all the lights etc!
