We decided late last night that we are going to keep our plans the same but instead of getting the train from Washington to New York, we will get the coach instead. As a result, we decided to have a lie in as we were both so shattered still.
When we finally made it out, we went to the Willis Tower (formally Sears tower) which is the biggest building in the US. Apparently on windy days, people in the offices on the floors near the top of the building can feel it swaying! Scary! This tower was much more informative than some of the towers we’ve been up. They had lots of interactive displays and a film showing the history of the building. The elevator to the top is one of the fastest, eek! As you looked out of one side of the building it was fairly flat and the streets were easy to see, whereas on the other side..all you could see was the tops of the buildings, no streets, no cars, just buildings, almost all being skyscrapers!! This tower also had the glass floor which you could stand on, the only difference being that it was a glass box which extended out from the building! Tad scary, but didn’t seem as bad as the others we’ve been on!
We then ventured up to Millennium Park to see more odd statues and objects! They had a twisty bridge which you should be able to make out in the pictures, as well as a huge reflective bubble like thing! It’s hard to describe these things, much easier to look at the pictures!
From the park we went for a mooch through the shopping streets and made our way back to the hostel. We then made our way to the International Centre to watch the Chicago Bulls play basketball (the team that Michael Jordan used to play for). It was pouring with rain on the way and we could only get standing tickets but it was worth it. The build up to the game was huge..the Americans like to put on a show! About half an hour after getting there, one of the stewards came along, giving out seated tickets. We were rather chuffed and made our way down to the seats where we had a much better view and a waitress who served you at your seat. When we looked at the tickets properly, we realised why..they cost $100 each!! We only paid $20 each! Hehe!
