We both slept well after spending ages umming and arging about what to do with our passes! We’re still undecided now! Hmmm!
We headed out and towards what is known as Chicago’s magnificent mile (like our Oxford street). We were both surprised by Chicago, it is different to how we imagined! I always thought of it as dark, dingy and dull, perhaps not helped by the old tv program called Kenan and Kel?! But in fact it has some amazing buildings, both new and old, and is fairly well looked after.
We found ourselves close to Grant Park so we decided to go and explore. We discovered the Buckingham fountain which is a huge fountain but unfortunately it wasn’t working today! On our walk round we saw the soldier field, where the American football team, the Cubs, play, 3 museums and lots of nice features, i.e. water fountains and odd statues…like Sue the Dinosaur?!
We then mooched along the trail around the lake, passing the two harbours and various views of the city. We made our way back towards the magnificent mile and admired all the posh shops and well looked after area. We ended up down at the beach at the far end of the mile, unfortunately a man made one! We were still trying to decide about our passes so made the decision to get as much done today as we could, just in case we had to leave Chicago early! So we went to Navy pier which is well known in Chicago as it is very much a part of the history here. There was plenty to see and do at the pier and we mooched through the cool shops, including the dog clothing shop, and walked around the pier. Much of it was closed as the season is over, but it was still nice to see.
We have both spent much of the day complaining about how shattered we felt! It must be because of the train journey so we’re hoping an early night will sort us out! We’re both impressed with Chicago so far and like what we have seen! Itt definitely lives up to being home of the skyscrapers..there are thousands of them!!
