Maria and Marks' Round the World Trip!
After the wedding we travelled back to Bangkok by plane and headed to North Thailand via the overnight train. It was quite comfy as they make up beds for you and there is a top and bottom bunk. We were sitting by the door to the toilets so it was quite noisy there all night and we had a disturbed sleep.
We arrived in Chiang Mai after 12 hours before 7am. We were taken to the guest house by a driver and introduced to Mr Boo! He explained to us that there were only four people going on the jungle trek today and he wanted us to go too, that day! We were knackered and just wanted to sleep but we said yes! He lent us a room where we had a nap, showered and packed for our 3 day jungle trek.
The trek was fun but extremely hard work. The highlights were when we rode elephants and bamboo rafts on a river with river snakes in! We only realised this when we were on the river! Overnight we stayed in different wooden huts and we had no hot water. It might seem like heaven to have a freezing cold shower in hot weather but its actually not as I have found! The toilets were gross too. Mark fell ill on the second night of the trek and had a really bad stomach. We gave him lots of medicine and luckily one of our group was a medical rep so he knew what to do. Mark was better on the last day and we trekked a bit more.
It was like torture and I couldnt believe we paid to do it! The travel agency said it was easy, the liars! It was definitely worth doing once but I dont think we are doing another one any time soon!
