We flew to Salvador after deciding that a 27 hours bus trip was a bit excessive, even for us! And we love it!
Salvador has a huge African influence, which it still strongly retains even nowadays. The old Pelourinho means 'whipping post' and was originally where the slaves were sold and tortured, but now this old quarter is very arty and buzzing with live music and dancing 24 hours a day! They are currently celebrating Sao Joao and have stages all through the city that host live bands and acts every night and can be heard all around! These people do not sleep!
We have had a really nice time just wondering around the cobbled streets, lined with green and yellow flags and Brazilian football shirts, looking at the old colonial buildings and African art whilst dodging the odd terrential rain down pour!
