We took a bus to Praia de Forte for a couple of days of relaxing by the beach. The town is very small with lots of great shops, aimed at tourists. The town is eco-sensitive, home to the TAMAR project which has a protection and breeding program for sea turtles. When we arrived the sun was shining so we took a walk around the many shops and headed for the beach which was really pretty and quiet, lined with palm trees. We then visited the TAMAR turtle reserve which was really interesting. We saw lots of turtles; Loggerheads, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Green and leatherback and there were also fishes and Nurse Sharks. TAMAR enlisted the help of former turtle hunters to help with the project. These fisherman now patrol the beaches to protect nesting sites and teach First Aid to fellow fisherman to revive turtles that are caught in fishing nets and drown. We then headed to the local bar to watch another eventful Brazilian match, with 4 goals our ears were ringing after the match!!
The next day we set out, donned in our bikinis and clutching our books ready for a day at the beach....then came the rain, again and again and again!!! Never have we seen so much water...so it was a relaxing day with our books, just not on the beach!
