Okey dokey peeps. We got back in to Bangkok on the evening of the 4th July and one of the first people we see is a guy called Mikkel who we'd met in the Treehouse in Koh Chang which was a bit strange but hey these things happen. After finding lodgings and going out for an Indian, we headed for Khaosan Road (KSR), the 'heart of backpacker land' in Bangkok. I was expecting Soi Cowboy on a grander scale and Mandy was expecting that scene out of The Beach with Leonardo Di Craprio i.e. all dust and mystery. Turns out we were both taken aback because what we got was an ordinary road that reminded me of Charlotte Street market. With loads of bars. And drunk backpackers. We sat and people watched for a while (Stu you'd be in absolute heaven) before getting home for an earlyish night. The next day we bimbled around and didn't get up to much really (although I did have a touch of the Bangkok trots...very messy) as we were saving ourselves for the following day. MANDY'S BIRTHDAY! I'll write about that in a separate postcard cos I'm not going to have time to do it now. Suffice to say we had a really really great day. The next couple of days were spent recovering before we booked our bus north for Chiang Mai. So that was Bangkok. We didn't see any more cultural stuff (we were still nocturnal. Something which has thankfully passed) but we did do a shed load of drinking and saw some of the slightly less cultural sights. We were all really looking forward to getting to Chiang Mai as we knew we wouldn't just be sitting round getting drunk. Well not as much anyway. The only big thing other than Mand's birthday was we said goodbye to Emmet as he was headed for Vietnam. We were really sorry to see him go cos he's really excellent company and was a erally big part of out trip thus far. Hopefully we might catch up with him in Vietnam at some point. That's about it, my time is up. I might add a bit more to this at some point (the hangover doesn't help the memory...I'm not as young as I used to be) and I'll update everyone on Mandy's birthday at my next sitting.
