Jennifer and Neil had today off work, so we headed to Yas Waterpark where none of us had been before. It was about a 40min drive and we arrived bang on 10am, opening time. After our disappointment in Surfers Paradise earlier in the year, we wanted to make sure we got there in time to get a good seat/base for the day. We needn't have worried! The park was really quite quiet first thing. We bagged ourselves a front row seat next to the wave pool which was our base for the day then set about exploring the park. First was a gentle float around one of the two lazy rivers before heading off to the 6 intertwining flumes which were called something to do with serpents and ended with you popping out of a snake’s mouth and into the pool. You could ride them in dual tubes or single, so Mandy was brave and rode 4 of them with Andrew. There was also a not so lazy river, where there was water sprayed on you at various intervals and a massive wave section- it was fun!
After a quick standard theme park lunch, Andrew managed to convince Mandy to try 2 big rides, one which ended up with us coming into a funnel from a near vertical drop and getting swashed around for a bit. Jennifer and Andrew, who are the adrenaline junkies, both tried a ride where the floor literally comes away from under you as you fall into a vertical fast drop and come flying out a great speed. Andrew ended the day by winning a race of 5 on an open flume where you used a mat and lay on your front. Before we know it it was after 5pm and time to head home.
Our evening was spent in the very opulent Emirates Palace, where we dined in a restaurant called Etoiles. It was very pleasant, and we managed to get a look around the public areas of the hotel, where they even have a ATM for gold- is there any need for that?!
