After the previous day's exploits, the morning was spent catching up on some sleep. The girls then headed to a local salon for some nail pampering, the boys followed along a bit later to meet up and have some lunch at a café not too far from Jen and Neil’s work called Jones’s. They had lots of lovely things on the menu and even their own cheese room!
We then travelled to the marina mall to pick up everyone’s favourite way to see a city, the tour bus! This example was a 2 hour round trip covering most of the city and its sights, we decided that we would just stay on and enjoy the sights as we would be back to the major ones later in the week. The temperature was pushing 37c so sitting outside up top wasn’t really an option, so viewed the city from the relative coolness of the lower deck. Abu Dhabi is quite spread out and rapidly developing so the bus gave us a good chance to not only get our bearings geographically but also learn some history from the commentary along the way. Photos weren’t as easy to take being on the lower deck but snapped away at the major sights as well as a couple of the party member who wasn’t feeling that great!
We returned to the Marina mall where after a quick look at the indoor ice rink and a horrendous singing competition, we headed up the observation tower and a now mandatory visit to a revolving restaurant. The intention had been just to have a quick drink and take in the view but after spying a cheap deal we got some afternoon tea, we soon discovered why it was cheap and no matter how hard we tried we never did get some scones! And the sandwiches were something to be desired. We did get some lovely views of the surrounding area and particularly the emirates palace hotel.
We then returned to the flat where we ordered in tonight’s delivery food of choice, Lebanese. A quick trip to Waitrose, housed in the development that the flat is built in, to pick up supplies and back in time for the food to be delivered. After our lovely dinner we called it a night and headed off to bed.
