Day 22 - San Francisco
We get up bright and early and head down to Pier 33 which is where the Alcatraz tours depart from. The tours are all sold out on line but we figured we may as well try and get them from the actual pier when it first opens. Unfortunately they are sold out until next Wednesday and since we wont even be in America then we have to give it a miss.
We grab some breakfast on the pier 39 and I convince Si we should go and see the sealions again .. Si has to drag me away from them after a while (I probably would have stood there all day if he'd let me) and we have a walk along the harbour and to the greyhound station to book our coach tickets to LA for tomorrow!
For dinner we went to a nice little doughnut shop around the corner from the hotel. Si ordered your normal ring doughnut with chocolate and sprinkles and I decided to go for a different shaped one. It didn't look that big when I ordered it but it turned out to be bigger than my face! .. I still ate it all though
Si mentioned that he would like to go and see Lombard Street which is apparently the most crooked street in America so we look on our map and find a route to walk there. Majority of the way there isn't too bad until we actually turn onto Lombard Street! To get to the crooked part of the street you have to walk up 2 very steep hills and of all the days for the sun to come out! By the time we got to the top of the hills (which is the bottom of the crooked bit) we're both a little out of breath to say the least. There isn't even a proper pavement at the crooked part there are steps its that steep and when we looked out towards the harbour it was amazing to see how high we actually were, we were in line with the top of one of the skyscrapers (The top of the street is 294ft high!). The street itself is very quirkey, well maintained and even though it pains me to say it was worth the climb to get there. After a few pics we headed back to the hotel but to get there had to navigate even more steep hills. They were that steep the cars had to park at 90 degree angles so they wouldn't roll back down them HA!
We recovered at the hotel and then opted for new york style pizza for tea and then more vodka and snacks to prepare us for our 7 hour coach trip tomorrow to LA!
