It's been over two weeks since the last of the blog and we have spent that time on the beach in Ko Samui. We got the overnight train from Bangkok to the town of Surat Thani on Thailand's south east coast. The train journey was fairly comfortable as we had sleeper beds which were pretty good. We were however, around 5 hours late getting into Surat Thani due to some issues with the track overnight which we couldn't quite figure out. We then had to get the ferry across to Ko Samui which took around an hour and a half after an hours bus journey from Surat Thani to the ferry terminal. We eventually made it to Lamai beach in Ko Samui at about 2pm so all in all we had been travelling for about 21 hours!!
We have now been in Ko Samui for 16 nights. Almost every day we have spent at the beach. The beach is really nice and we've enjoyed lying on the free sunbeds provided by the various restaurant lining the beach. There have been a few days where the weather hasn't been great and almost every day around 5 or 6pm we've had some pretty strong storms which pass fairly quickly. The resort we are staying in, Lamai Beach, is really good and there are loads of bars and restaurants. We've mainly ate at a small food night market with around 10 stalls. Beth's enjoyed the various meats which you can get on skewers and I've had a pad Thai almost every night.
The plan for this part of the trip has always been to do a bit of island hopping and relax on the beautiful Thai beaches as we near going home. Tomorrow we are catching the ferry to the closest island which is Koh Phangnan. We've got a week booked there but we plan staying for at least two weeks before heading across to the west coast where we've heard that the weather isn't quite as good as this coast.
