Wednesday saw us go on the free walking tour around Cusco. Logic would indicate that you should do this when you first arrive in a city but not for us. We decided to do it after around 5 days in the city. Anyways, the tour took us around the main sights of the city and a few of the lesser known sights. It was an excellent tour and lasted around 3 hours before finishing in the chocolate museum to Beth's delight. Whilst on the tour, they raffle prizes and surprisingly, we won a meal for two at a nice restaurant. We were over the moon as this restaurant is definitely out of our budgetary confinements. So after finishing the tour, we headed to the restaurant to book a table for Wednesday night. After talking the waiter and bar manager, we then discover that they are no longer honouring this deal so we won't be eating there!! I had already picked out the pork on the menu. We were both disappointed but it's something we never had, although we are trying to get something from the walking tour to replace the prize.
So feeling sorry for ourselves, we decided to go out for a few drinks on Wednesday night and to try and catch a couple of happy hours. We first went to a pub overlooking the square and sat outside in the terrace watching the city at night. The square is the heart of the city and it seems as though there is always something going on. We then went to the Irish pub for their happy hour and had a really good night with a few drinks and some decent music.
We awoke on Thursday a bit later than usual with slightly fuzzy heads. We decided to visit one of the museums in the city, the Museo Arte Pre Colombino, which was pretty good. They have a load of sculptures, paintings and ceramic from up to 3000 years ago. We were even allowed to take pictures of stuff which was nice for a change. The weather has been great today with barely a cloud in the sky so we went for some lunch before sitting in the main plaza with the kindle and some music whilst catching some rays. When the sun comes out here you can really feel it even thought its only been about 16 degrees today.
It's now only 3 days until we start the Inca Trail and we are hoping the weather stays good for the duration. Knowing the weather here though that seems pretty unlikely but we can live in hope.
