So on Sunday afternoon, we went to see the 12 sided stone which is near the main plaza in Cusco. It was pretty decent but to be honest it just looked like a load of stones to us. You are meant to be able to see different shapes of animals in the stone but we couldn't really make them out. After this, Beth was really excited to see the chocolate museum so we ventured there. It was quite interesting with the history of cacao and we were given a complimentary chocolate tea which was really nice!! We didn't buy any of the chocolate but it all looked and smelt excellent.
After this, we went back to our hostel and ended up watching a couple of films, The Guardian and then Love Actually, with a little break to nip out and get some food. We were gutted as we only caught the very end of Elf which is our favourite Christmas film. It's a bit early we know but why not if they were on.
On Monday, we moved hostel to Dragonfly hostel which is just around the corner from our previous hostel. Our room wasn't ready so we found the tour company we are doing the inca trail with and checked that they definitely had our booking. We also booked into the Millhouse hostel for the night before the start of the Inca Trail as this was included with our package. We then checked into our room which we were very disappointed with!! The room was right next to the communal area so it was pretty loud all day and till about 11pm at night. The bathroom was a dive as well and was like a greenhouse built into the room. Then there was the bed which was a pretty small double. All in all we felt we had made a mistake moving hostels so cancelled our booking or the remaining 4 days and decide only to stay for the one night. The rest of the afternoon was spent looking for places to stay in Mancora in Northern Peru where we are headed after Cusco.
On Monday night, we went out for tea and a couple of drinks. We left the hotel in just the nick of time. As we left it started raining which gradually got heavier. By the time we reached the square it was belting down when all of a sudden all of the lights went out. This was followed by screams from random people obviously in shock. We quickly made our way to the sanctuary of an Irish pub and swiftly ordered a drink by candlelight. The power came back o after about half an hour whilst we stayed in the bar to have some food and a couple more drinks.
So today (Tuesday), we have returned to our original hostel, VIP House, and are back in the same room we previously had. This morning, we have put some much needed laundry in ahead of the Inca Trail and visited the Inca Museum. The museum was excellent and took a good hour to look around all of the artefacts. We have then got some dinner and just managed to make it back to the hostel before the heavens opened.
