Friday was the last day that my brother was travelling with us before he headed back to the UK via Melbourne. The morning was spent helping him get sorted and sorting our bus out of Queenstown which we have delayed for two more days so that we don't now leave on Tuesday. Once this was sorted and the hostel was booked for a further two nights, we had a quick walk around town before we saw Badge to the bus stop and he headed for the airport. It's been a great near on two weeks travelling down the South Island and we all have memories which we will never forget.
Friday afternoon was spent catching up on things and watching a film in the tv room before getting lasagne for tea from the supermarket and chilling in the hostel.
We woke up to glorious weather on Saturday morning which was great since we had decided to do the 16km walk to Frankton which is a small town along the lake from Queenstown. The walk had superb views all along the side of the lake and as there was no clouds in the sky, the top of the mountains were visible for pretty much the first time. It took about an hour and a half to get to Frankton where we located the cricket ground as we are planning on watching some cricket on Monday, weather permitting. We then went back down to the edge of the lake and had a bit of a picnic whilst enjoying the excellent views. We were both a but knackered when we got back so we watched another film in the tv room (a personal favourite - The Wedding Crashers) before we got ready and decided to get some drinks and sit in the park to enjoy the awesome weather. We headed to the park with a six pack of beer for me and six cans of vodka and cranberry for Beth and it was packed with people who had the same idea. We just sat there, enjoyed some music and caught some rays for almost the first time in New Zealand. We then went down to the lake front which was again packed with people having a drink on a Saturday night and had some fish and chips to round off a really good day.
When we woke up on Sunday the weather was absolutely horrible!! It wasn't helped by everyone else in our room leaving for a tour at around half 6 and not really trying to be quiet. I couldn't get back to sleep so I got up and checked the football scores whilst having a cup of tea in the common room. Beth's earplugs seemed to do the trick as she didn't even stir. Things hasn't really improved by the time Beth did stir (about 11am) so we got ready, had a very quick walk around, mainly to get some lunch in an went back to the hostel. I decided that it was perfect weather for a jog so I jogged the track to Frankton and got absolute soaked but enjoyed a nice run.
Tonight we have been to a burger joint next to our hostel called Devil Burger. I got a burger called The Spicy Devil and it was brilliant. The amount of jalapeños in it was pretty impressive. The weathers a little better but it's not the warmest so we are sat in front of the fire and hoping the weather stays okay so we can catch some cricket tomorrow. I think that Beth is secretly hoping it lashes down all day she doesn't have to watch any cricket!!
