We left Christchurch at around 7.30am on Thursday morning headed for Kaikoura. The journey was only around 4 hours so we were in Kaikoura by about 12 o clock. On the way, I managed to spot some seals chilling out on the rocks but Beth was asleep as per usual so she missed it.
We had booked our accommodation on line for Kaikoura and had managed to get a private room for the same price as we had been paying for dorms in other places. The hostel is okay if a bit dated but its nice to stop somewhere for a couple of night again rather than constantly being on the move. After checking in, we had a walk around the town and down to the beach which is volcanic sand and not the greatest beach we have seen.
On Thursday night, we had decided to have a bit of a drink so we bought some wine and had a quiet night watching tv in the room.
We woke up on Friday morning a bit later than usual due to the previous nights alcohol intake. In fairness, we have done very little today apart from having a walk into town and back and doing some laundry in the hostel. The weather has been pretty bad as well today which gave us the excuse to not do too much. This is our last night on the South Island and we are catching the ferry tomorrow from Picton back up to Wellington.
