Another great train trip to Berlin. Central station at Berlin is huge as it is 5 levels with trains going in all directions As in Frankfurt we bought our welcome card which entitles you to free transport on all buses , trains and trams and discounts on some sights. It is very convenient to just jump on and not have to worry about tickets Our hotel is in a lovely part of Berlin called Savignyplatz It has wide tree lined streets numerous restaurants and lovely parks We arrived on a Sunday and the Berliners were out enjoying the sunshine.
Our first day we had a walking tour booked. I do not know if all guides are as good as ours but he was fantastic As well as visiting the usual parts - Brandenburg gate Checkpoint Charlie and where Hitlers bunker was he gave us a great history lesson on Germany. As with the other cities there are numerous museums and you could spend many days here visiting them
Olympia stadium was our first activity today. This is the stadium built by the Nazis for the controversial 1936 games. We had an audio tour and it was superb The stadium has been modernized several times but the original facades have all been retained. It is now has a partial roof, with lighting built into the structure and seating for 78000 people with all of them getting an excellent view of the arena. The acoustics were amazing and I would just love to be there with a full house of fans. I did think that AMMI stadium could be developed along similar lines
After the stadium we revisited Checkpoint Charlie and learnt all the details about the Cold War (wall constructions, confrontations and escapes etc).
The afternoon was a bit of a bummer in that we chose a river cruise through Berlin While it was very pleasant sitting on the top deck getting a view of Berlin and its many parks and buildings the commentary was as boring as bats***
A pleasant but simple meal at Cafe Nord Sud ( lonely Planet rec) finished off the day. John Paul entertained us while serving his meals
Today we visited Potsdam a sort of twin city to Berlin. The main attraction is the Sans Souci palace which we visited It is a very ornate home of Frederick the Great .Beautiful gardens fountains etc
Restful afternoon and out for a birthday tea for Marilyn Looking for the best schnitzel in Germany.
Off to Munich tomorrow

In functie de presiunea asupra programului vreau sa public articolul atat in afara cat si, daca se poate, in Romania. Multumesc foarte mult si sper sa avem oportunitatea sa colaboram impreuna, eventual si face to face, desi in momentul asta stau in Bremen. Sunt absolut deschis in cazul in care consideri ca ai vrea sa mai discutam asupra temei.Succes in continuare,[email protected]
