Lynda and Fred Travels
First stop port fairy. Lovely little town with lots of old stone buildings and houses. River and ocean front. Cold again. High of 14. Next stop coffee at Portland. Opposite docks. Two industries here. Aluminium smelting and wood chip manufacturing. Must be 10 ships waiting out to sea! Was intriguing watching trucks load wood chips onto the dock then other trucks loading the same wood chips from the docks to the boats...all going to china where they make wood chips from it all...the pine and the gum tree wood chips in separate piles! And all the way from Portland to Naracoorte there were big trucks with logs going to Portland We spent 3 hours at Mount Gambier...great place...thank you...first we wandered around the sink hole which is amazing...had a tea and sandwich at the little shop there, then went around all the lakes including brown lake which has no water! Such beautiful surrounds...they must have a lot of gardeners to keep it so beautiful! I climbed to the top of the hill to the tower and there were amazing views from there...over the lakes and the city and the valleys...it was so steep...the steepest climb I have done since doing Wild Horse Mountain at home! If it were not so cold I could live there...beautiful place! Never got above 14 all day...hopefully today will be warmer. We are in a lovely place in Naracoorte....big rooms with balcony and grassy area outside...spacious and comfortable and they have a restaurant with the best food...I was the only woman there...this place has a lot of construction workers staying here so they need to have good meals and they do!
